Presidential Election

It is always a special occasion when the grandchildren are in our home. Especially when all four are there. Last night was no exception.

Pam prepared her famous lasagna followed by a new pumpkin cake creation. The evening included Charlie Brown videos for the kids and Gunsmoke reruns for the big kids. The evening only got better as the kitchen was available to our three granddaughters to bake and decorate their designer cupcakes.

My assignment was to observe the girls’ artistry while protecting them and their baked goods from two-year-old Max. Strange as it seems, my mind turned to politics as I rejoiced again in the blessings of grandparenthood. As I stared at their intent faces, I realized something more than ever. This presidential election is not about Pam and me. It is about our children and grandchildren.

It is not about the rise or fall of our taxes or retirement funds. It is about the nation our descendants will inherit. The decisions and judicial appointments of our next president will directly impact our children if they live in a nation that protects the unborn or prefers the ‘rights’ of an adult. Will their homeland hold to biblical standards for marriage or pursue other paths? The list of concerns for our nation’s heart seems endless.

Pam and I are concerned about our present and future financial situation as anyone should be. But our dependence is upon the One who promised to provide all our needs. Our prayers for these days before the election and the months and years to follow have little to do with the economy. Our prayers are focused on God’s perfect will for America…and our children and grandchildren.

Running Out of Time

Recent days have been a time of fear for many in America. The dark
reports of our nation’s economy have threatened the security of so
many. For the child of God, we must not forget that our provision is
not in the bailout of Wall Street but the blessing of our Father’s
plan of economy.

Among the many conversations and controversies, the one that stood out
to me was the suggestion of a European economist that the only way to
avoid a worldwide collapse was to merge our many financial
institutions into one world system. This offering of advice frightened
me and excited me at the same time.

My friend Dwain Jones has warned us many times, “We are not running
out of money, we are running out of time.”

In my mind, it has never been more obvious. The command of the Great
Commission has never been more pressing. What we do, we must do quickly.
